CSLB abbreviated as Contractors State License Board
was established in 1929 as the Contractors License Bureau
in the Department of Professional and Vocational Standards.
But it is a division of the Department of Consumer Affairs
at present. Activities are always made by both Governor
and the Legislature. A 15-member board occupies the
CSLB's executive officer, Registrar of Contractors,
as well as provides a way of administrative policy for
the operations that are made by the agencies and this
board comprises of nearly nine public members, five
contractors and one labor representative. Also CSLB
licenses and control contractors in 43 classifications
that comprise of construction industries. Considering
the population of contractors in the State, there are
around 280,000 licensed contractors. The CSLB also records
home improvement salespersons. The Registrar oversees
approximately 380 employees, who are scattered among
the headquarters office in Sacramento and also the field
offices throughout the whole state.
